National Professional Qualifications
National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are nationally recognised professional development programmes, accredited by the Department for Education (DfE).

The programmes;
- last between 12-18 months.
- are delivered through a combination of online and face-to-face sessions, and online self-study.
- are either focused on a specialist area of teaching or a type of leadership.
Specialist programmes
NPQ in Leading Teacher Development
For teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading the development of other teachers in their school.This includes anyone interested in mentoring trainees or Early Career Teachers.
NPQ in Leading Teaching
For teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading teaching in a subject, year group, key stage or phase.
NPQ in Leading Behaviour and Culture
For teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading behaviour and/or supporting pupil wellbeing in their school. Learn how to create a culture of good behaviour and high expectations in which staff and pupils can thrive.
Please note that we are not able to run either the NPQ in Leading Literacy or the NPQ in Leading Primary Maths locally in Norfolk.
You can still apply for these courses with NIoT here. However, you may have to join a national cohort, which could involve travelling to another location.
Leadership programmes
NPQ in Senior Leadership
For school leaders who are, or are aspiring to be, a senior leader with cross-school responsibilities. Develop your leadership knowledge and expertise to improve outcomes for teachers and pupils in your school.
NPQ in Headship
For school leaders who are, or are aspiring to be, a headteacher or head of school with responsibility for leading a school. Develop the knowledge that underpins expert school leadership and apply it to become an outstanding headteacher.
We are delighted to be running the NPQH in collaboration with Unity Teaching School Hub.
NPQ for SENCOs
This course is designed for current, or aspiring, SENCOs, and experienced teachers and leaders who are seeking to develop their expertise in leading special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision in their school.
Please note that we are not able to run either the NPQ in Early Years Leadership or the NPQ in Executive Leadership locally in Norfolk.
You can still apply for these courses directly with lead providers. However, you may have to join a national cohort, which could involve travelling to another location.
You can apply for the NPQEYL with NIoT.
You can apply for the NPQEL with BPN or NIoT.
